Digital advertising has become a critical tool for political campaigns to get their message out to voters. However, the setup and verification process can be confusing for staffers and candidates who aren’t familiar with the platform.
Here is a checklist of required steps to get your campaign verified to run ads on Facebook:
- Create a Business Manager Account:
In order to run political ads on Facebook, your campaign page must be connected to a business manager account for verification. Visit https://business.facebook.com/ to create an account.
- Verify Business Account with Facebook
Once you create a business account on Facebook, you’ll have to verify it as an official entity in the business manager account settings. This is especially critical for campaigns, as verification is required to move forward with political ads.
- Create Ad Account
Creating an ad account is the first step to actually being able to place ads on Meta. You can create an ad account within your business account settings.
- Verify Disclaimer and connect to Ad Account
You’ll need to verify your campaign’s disclaimer to officially run political ads on Facebook. This includes uploading an FEC filing or EIN number associated with the campaign organization. The disclaimer will be shown whenever your ads are delivered on Facebook and Instagram.
- Verify Instagram and Connect To Ad Account
In order to run ads on Instagram as well, you’ll have to connect that account to your Facebook account and verify the page for political ads. Visit the new page experience in Instagram page settings to verify and connect your Instagram account.
