Recently, Heartland Next proudly partnered with the Iowa Environmental Council, Illinois PIRG, and several other environmental advocates to spearhead a dynamic advertising campaign in support of Chicago’s groundbreaking Clean Air and Buildings Ordinance (CABO). This forward-thinking ordinance is set to revolutionize the city’s building standards by mandating that all new constructions adopt all-electric energy systems, effectively phasing out on-site fossil fuel usage.
The Environmental and Health Promise of CABO
CABO is more than just a building code update; it’s a pledge to a greener, healthier future. By minimizing fossil fuel dependence, the ordinance is designed to slash greenhouse gas emissions, fostering cleaner air and playing a pivotal role in the fight against climate change. Beyond environmental gains, the shift to electric systems promises tangible health benefits. Residents can expect lower energy bills and a significant reduction in indoor pollutants, such as benzene, a hazardous substance linked to severe health risks. This transition will not only enhance air quality but also safeguard home environments, making them safer havens for families.
Our Role in Advocating for CABO
Throughout 2024, Heartland Next was at the forefront of raising awareness and rallying community support for CABO. Our multi-faceted digital advertising strategy was crafted to educate Chicago residents about the ordinance’s benefits and mobilize them to reach out to their local leaders in favor of the initiative. The campaign leveraged various digital platforms, including targeted social media ads, programmatic display ads, and captivating streaming TV and video ads across the web.
Our efforts have resonated with the community, engaging over 250,000 Chicago residents to date. Each ad served as a call to action, empowering citizens to become advocates for a cleaner, healthier Chicago.

Looking Ahead
As we continue this vital campaign, Heartland Next remains committed to seeing the CABO ordinance through to its successful adoption in a future legislative session. Together with our partners and the Chicago community, we’re dedicated to paving the way for a sustainable future, one building at a time.
